The RCGP Position on GP Training

The establishment of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) and the publication of the Department of Health’s plans for modernising medical careers mean that there are likely to be major changes in the training of GPs in the UK.

The RCGP expects to have a major influence on these changes for the benefit of GPs and the patients that they serve.

The RCGP welcomes the opportunity for radical change in GP training and fully endorses the statement on key principles and standards for postgraduate medical education training programmes produced by the PMETB Training & Quality Assurance Sub Group in April 2003.
